DISRUPTIVE SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR NEXT GENERATION PVWINDOWS

Despite efforts realized over the past 30 years, BIPV sector has not been capable to develop and launch to the market a PV window solution capable to answer all the demands required for this kind of elements (full transparency, energy production, active lifetime, operability, wiring concealment).
The Tech4Win project aims the development of a disruptive and innovative transparent photovoltaic window based on a tandem structure approximation. The proposed structure will combine an organic IR selective PV device (the most PV active element) with an inorganic coating capable of filter the UV radiation. The inorganic coating will act as a protection layer for the PV element against ultraviolet radiation with the objective to increase the PV hybrid device lifetime.
This “tandem structure” will be able to generate on-site renewable energy guaranteeing a high-transparency degree and all by a competitive manufacturing method that reduces the cost and the use of critical raw material to ensure the sustainable mass development.
The Tech4Win project is conceived as the first key milestone of an ambitious strategic roadmap for the obtaining of a fully developed a robust solution for PV full transparency windows in the medium term.
The project consortium is composed by 8 partners from 5 different countries including 4 flagship RTD organizations, 3 Technology-based SMEs and 1 large company. The consortium is led by the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC).
Among other activities, ONYX will be in charge of the design phase of the device, the scalability of the final prototype and will lead the tasks related to the exploitation, dissemination, and IPR.
