The canopy is placed in the square called “Ciudad de Brujas” (city of Brugge in English), an historic square in the center of the historic city of Valencia and it’s part of a complete remodeling of the square, managed by the Urban Development Area of the City Council of Valencia.
The installation has 197 m2 and it is composed of 151 units of Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Glass with 8 different measures ranging from 1,646x720 mm to 2,436x720 mm. Each module has a glass configuration of 6T + 6T mm.
This canopy will improve the comfort of citizens by filtering 99% of harmful radiation while providing shade for the pedestrian and generate free and clean energy that will be used to feed the public parking Centre Històric-Mercat Central located close to the canopy.
The Ciudad de Brujas square was built in the XVIII century and gets its name from the city of Brugge, in Belgium. This city has an historic connection with Valencia since the Valencian philosopher and humanist Juan Luis Vives lived in that city for so many years in the XVI century.
“This work has served to improve public space but also to make the city more sustainable, which has gained a meeting space, with shaded areas, also saving the condition of underground parking”.
Sandra Gómez, Councilor for Urban Development of the City Hall of Valencia
This iconic square has been totally remodeled recently by the City Hall of Valencia, who has invested 8 million € to refurbish 20,000 m2 of the square to give more importance to the pedestrians which can find a comfortable shade in our canopy to rest.
Our PV canopy is located close to the historic central market of Valencia and contrasts the historical place with the innovative design of our solutions. So, history and modernity go hand in hand in this project.
