What is Onyx Solar?

Onxy  Solar is a business committed to the development of intelligent solutions for the sustainable integration of solar energy photovoltaic in buildings.

These solutions contemplate the integration of façades and ventilated roof façade as one of the principle constructive solutions designed by our equipment with the objective to optimize not only the production of energy but also to make important energy savings for the building.

Thus we have developed the first photovoltaic glass specifically designed for installation in buildings, as an integral feature of said buildings, which is able to substitute the traditional construction materials such as ceramic or glass.

With this in mind, and conscious of the particularities of each building, we can customize this photovoltaic glass according  to our clients needs, providing it in various colours, sizes, thicknesses and degrees of transparency.

Technological independence

However, within our company we believe that this endeavour, albeit important, is not sufficient to be able to integrate photovoltaic solar energy in our cities in a definitive manner.

The complexity which supposes the production of photovoltaic energy in buildings arises owing to large variety in form, orientation, inclinations, location and shade coverage.

It is therefore essential to be able to count upon the widest technological range available, so that each technology can be applied in the area where it is most effective in order to achieve the proposed objectives.

At ONYX we adjust to the objectives of our clients to offer the best solution, in relation to cost, aesthetic values, energy saving and photovoltaic production. This is possible thanks to a policy of independent technology which guarantees the best solution for each individual building we work on.

Our Philosophy

Onyx Solar arose as an answer to the development of a new form of construction, one which demanded a more sustainable and ecological architecture.

Terms such as efficiency, energy saving, sustainability and reductions of CO2 emissions characterize the “Green Building” idea. The Green Building practice will permit the achievement of an independent global energy which will distance us from the use of contaminating combustion fuel and move us closer to energy sources which are both clean and respectful of the environment.

As a business we are proud to form part of this universal change, which without a doubt will alter our planet’s destiny. Thanks to our efforts and enthusiasm we have placed ourselves at the forefront of a highly competitive sector, something which permits us to approach with confidence any architectural integration project.

Our philosophy consists of a combination of providing unique and intelligent solutions regarding the integration of photovoltaic and the optimizing of thermal surroundings for the generation of electrical energy.

Our Motivation: Green Building. Towards a new architecture and a more sustainable construction which is at one with the environment.

The actual model of energy consumption, based on the use of combustible fossil fuels is completely unsustainable Not only because the increased demand for energy is exhausting the energy reserves but equally the environmental damage which is a direct result of the use of these resources (emission of contaminating gases, global warning etc).

The most energy efficient alternative solution available, nuclear power, supposes a risk of radioactive contamination which many people do not wish to take.

It is therefore easy to understand the commitment of different governments and supranational organizations, especially considering the pre-agreements recently established in the Bali conference, for the development and implementation of clean, renewable energy which can guarantee long-term environmental friendly solutions.

This panorama is especially interesting in Europe, where the strategic Energy Plan has established that, for 2020, 20% of consumed energy should be derived from renewable sources.

This commitment is even greater in Spain, where the objectives are to reach an interior energy production level of 22.1% by 2010.

These policies have recently been adopted in the USA, with the passing of the Obama Plan, which previews an inversion of 14 million dollars in renewable energy in the next three years.

Governments of countries where solar radiation conditions are favorable, and which also coincide with an elevated energy cost (e.g. Brazil 0.22$/KWh), are analyzing the possibility of promoting the integration of photovoltaic energy in public buildings. This is due to the supposed immediate energy saving in the actual energy consumption which and the high economic vitality which is predicted in the long term.

At this critical moment a new concept of habitability is indispensible, A concept in which the architecture incorporates strategic aspects of sustainable development, and where the architectural solutions are intelligent from the viewpoints of energy efficacy, energy saving and self generation of resources.

With variations from one country to another, and depending upon the energy production combinations of each county, during its life cycle 1kWo of photovoltaic energy is able to mitigate up to 80 tons of CO2.
